What Form 8821 is for

Form 8821 authorises a person or organisation you choose to inspect or receive your confidential tax information for the types of tax, forms and years you specify. Unlike a power of attorney it does not let them represent you or speak for you before the IRS. It is commonly used so that a lender, a bookkeeper or a family member can obtain transcripts or copies of notices.
