Browser tools
22 tools read the selected file in your browser's memory and make the output on your device. They may download their processing libraries from this site when opened. The file itself is not sent to our processing API. Your browser saves the result when you choose Download.
Examples include merging, splitting and annotating a PDF. Some engines use JavaScript and some use WebAssembly. The technology is less important to your privacy than whether the file is uploaded; each tool page states that separately.
Your device's memory limits very large jobs. If you close the tab before saving, an unfinished browser-only result is lost. Offline work may succeed after all necessary code has loaded, but loading a tool or an uncached library needs a connection.
Server tools
11 tools upload the chosen file to https://ocr.scanmydocz.com for conversion, extraction or recognition. Their pages state this before the file picker. Uploaded files are scheduled for deletion after 24 hours, as explained in the privacy policy. A server job needs an internet connection.
PDF to Text extracts an existing text layer in your browser. It does not recognise words in scanned page images. Our searchable PDF guide explains that distinction. Scanly for Android offers OCR and searchable PDF export; its text extraction can use Deplyra servers.
Inputs, outputs and processing by tool
This list comes from the same tool registry that builds the individual pages. “Possible output” names file types the tool can offer; the result depends on your input and choices. Open a tool page for its exact limits before processing a large or sensitive file.

How to check a particular tool
- Read the processing label on the tool page before choosing a file.
- With a harmless test file, open the browser's developer tools and watch the Network tab while you process it.
- On a browser-only tool, you should see code and site requests but no upload of your test file. On a server tool, expect a request to the processing API.
- Open the downloaded result and check that its pages, text or fields match what you intended.
Advertising requests, when ads are enabled, are separate from file processing. The privacy page lists every tool and the current processing route. If a route or disclosure differs from what you observe, tell us.
