ID Card Scan

Front and back of a card, on a single A4 sheet.

  • No upload endpoint exists
  • No network code in any engine
  • Every tool driven in a browser each release

Choose two photos

or drop it here

How it works

  1. Photograph the front. Then the back.
  2. Both get cropped to the card's edges and straightened.
  3. Export one A4 page with the two sides stacked.

Getting a card copy an office will accept

Offices reject card copies for the same few reasons every time, and all of them are avoidable in the thirty seconds before you take the photograph.

Take the card out of the wallet or sleeve

Plastic over plastic produces a reflection exactly where the important numbers are, and no amount of processing removes a blown-out highlight.

Lay it on something dark and matte

Cards are pale and glossy. On a light desk the detector has no edge to find; on a shiny one you photograph the ceiling light.

Watch for the flash

A direct flash on a laminated card usually wipes out the photograph or the number. Turn it off and move to a window instead.

Keep the real card size on unless your card is not standard

At 85.6 by 54 mm a print at 100% measures the same as the card in your hand, which is what an office checking a copy expects. Turn it off for anything that is not ID-1 shaped, or the picture will be stretched to a size it never was.

Check both sides are the right way up before you export

A card photographed in portrait is rotated for you, but if a side went in upside down it will print upside down. It is visible in the preview.

Where this is the wrong tool. This is the one tool where where the processing happens matters most, and it is worth being plain: identity documents are handled entirely inside your browser and never sent anywhere. Even so, on a shared or public computer the photographs sit in that machine's memory and its downloads folder while you work. Use your own device for identity documents.

When the browser is not enough

scanmydocz for Android

Live edge detection through the camera, text recognition that makes the PDF searchable, a signature you can place, and batch capture. All of it on the phone.

In closed testing. There is no public Play link yet, so there is no button here yet.

scanmydocz Pro

Pro is the paid tier in the Android app. It cannot be bought on the web yet, because checkout is not connected, and we would rather say that than show you a price you cannot pay.

Questions

Do my files get uploaded?

No, and on this tool that matters more than on any other. Photographs of identity documents are processed in your browser and never sent anywhere. Nothing is stored after you close the tab.

Is there a file size limit?

None is imposed. Two card photographs from any phone are small work for a browser, and this is the one tool here where file size is never the constraint.

Is the card printed at its real size?

Yes. Cards are placed at 85.6 × 54 mm, the ID-1 size used by CNICs, passport cards, driving licences and bank cards, so a print measures correctly.

My card is not a standard size.

Switch to 'fit to the crop' and the two sides are placed at the shape you cropped, as large as fits, rather than forced to ID-1.

Can I do a passport page?

Use Scan to PDF for a passport booklet page. It is A5-ish and does not belong in a card frame.

Should I put this on a public computer?

We would not. Nothing is uploaded, but the photos are in that machine's memory and its downloads folder while you work. Use your own device for identity documents.
