Know where your file is processed

For sensitive documents, the processing route matters. Choosing a file for one of the 22 browser tools here keeps it on your device. The other 11 use our processing API and upload the selected file. Each tool states its route and retention before you choose a file.

Is it free, and is there a catch?

Free, with no account and no watermark on anything. The site is paid for by advertising, which is beside the tools and never inside your file. Two tools carry a fair-use limit: the PDF editor and the form filler give a free reader 2 documents a day, because they are the two people lean on hardest. Everything else is unmetered.

Which tools upload my file?

11 of the 33: Image to Text, PDF to Word, PDF to Excel, PDF to PowerPoint, Word to PDF, Excel to PDF, PowerPoint to PDF, Redact PDF, Sanitise PDF, PDF to JSON, Ask a PDF. Those workflows use our server and uploaded files are deleted after 24 hours. The other 22 process selected files in your browser. Every card says which it is before you click it, and the tool page says so again before you choose a file.

Is there a file size limit?

Browser-only tools are limited by the memory your device can spare. Server tools state their limits on each tool page.

Does it work offline?

Browser-only tools process files locally after their code has loaded. Start with a connection to load the page and processing library. Server tools need a connection for each job.

Do the tools work on a phone?

Yes, including the scanner, which is built for a phone camera first. The rest work on a phone as well as they do on a laptop.
