How it works

  1. Add the PDF.
  2. Pick the resolution. 150 DPI reads fine on a screen; 300 DPI is print-grade and about four times the file size.
  3. Download one page, or all of them as a zip.

Which resolution you actually need

Resolution is the whole decision, and higher is not better, only bigger.

150 DPI for anything that will be looked at on a screen

Email, a message, a slide, a web page. It is sharp on a phone and on a laptop, and the files stay small enough to send.

300 DPI when it will be printed

Print needs roughly twice the detail a screen does. The files are about four times the size, which is the price.

96 DPI when you need it small and it is just for reference

Legible, obviously soft on close inspection. Fine for a quick visual check, wrong for anything anyone has to read carefully.

PNG only for line art and screenshots

PNG is lossless, so a diagram or a screenshot of text stays crisp. On a photograph or a scanned page it produces a much larger file for no visible gain, and JPEG is the right answer there.

Where this is the wrong tool. Rendering happens on your device, one page at a time. A four-hundred-page PDF at 300 DPI will work and it will be slow, and on an older phone it may run the tab out of memory before it finishes. Export in batches if the file is large.

Questions

Do my files get uploaded?

No. The PDF is rendered by your browser.

Is there a file size limit?

None is imposed. The constraint is memory: each page is drawn at the resolution you chose before it is saved, so 300 DPI on a large page needs several times more memory than 150 DPI. If a big file struggles, drop the resolution or export in batches.

Will it open a password-protected PDF?

Only if you know the password, and you will be asked for it. Without it the page cannot open the file, and neither can anything else.

What resolution should I choose?

150 DPI for anything that will be looked at on a screen. 300 DPI if it will be printed. Higher than 300 mostly buys file size.

Does it work on a 400-page PDF?

It will try, one page at a time, and it will be slow. Rendering happens on your device, so a big PDF costs your battery rather than our bandwidth.

Does it work without a connection?

Opening the page needs one, and so does the first PDF you open, because that is the moment this site hands over the PDF reader. Everything after that is local, and your file is never sent anywhere either way.
